Poem

they fled from kings, from wars, from chains,

they crossed the seas through storms and pains.

they stole some land, rewrote the deal,

then called it freedom, signed in steel.

they built with hope, with hungry eyes,

beneath new flags and borrowed skies.

they dreamt of peace, of open doors,

now chase their ghosts from their own shores.

now ice patrols the dream they sold,

cold wrists, cold words, the same old cold.

a land once proud to take the lost,

now guard the gates at freedom’s cost.

the anthem swells, the crowd will cheer,

the words they've long forgot to hear.

how far you’ve, how fast you flee,

from what once made you brave and free.
